Kim Cassel specializes in rigorous evaluation methods and applying research evidence to improve the effectiveness of social policy. At Arnold Ventures, she is responsible for developing strategic investments to build the body of social programs found to produce meaningful improvements in people’s lives, including a portfolio of randomized controlled trials evaluating programs across all areas of social policy. She advises and collaborates with policymakers and other philanthropic funders to advance the use of evidence in policy and funding decisions.

Before joining Arnold Ventures, Kim worked for the Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan nonprofit, Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy, which sought to increase government effectiveness through rigorous evidence about what works in social policy. Prior to her work at the Coalition, she worked with the Families and Communities Research Group (first at the Institute for Juvenile Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago and then at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago), which conducted federally-funded longitudinal research studies, including large randomized controlled trials, focused on preventing youth aggression and violence in neighborhoods experiencing high levels of crime.
